On Friday April 9, 2018 St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School celebrated a fundraising campaign for Autism Awareness and Down Syndrome. Educational Assistants and Student Council organized a raffle and donation campaign. Students were invited to wear crazy socks (for Autism) and Blue (non- school uniform for Downs Syndrome). Announcements raised awareness and the school community was invited to purchase draw tickets for some great prizes. For the Friday April 6 Assembly some families from our school were invited out to join their children in this celebration held at our Monthly Award ceremony in the Gym. Vanessa Coens of Autism Ontario joined Ingrid Muschta and Kathryn Innes of the Down Syndrome Society of Ontario to speak to our staff and students.
Ingrid and Kathryn thanked the school for the donations to fund speech therapy and other programs.
Vanessa shared that the funds would provide families opportunity for programs, different experiences and family support.
$1500 was raised with $750 donated to each group.
Our motto of FAITH TEAMWORK EXCELLENCE was once again lived out in this event for two great causes.
